South-Central / Region 7 ; We were out last night/morning , under a
halfmoon , starlit sky ..... pretty chilly and fog rolled in after midnite.... we took around 40 calicos , all 10" to 12" , w/ about 8
slabs over 12". Utilizing double-droppers , rigged w/ 3/16 oz. jigs tipped w/ fatheads on the lower droppers , and 3" to 4" medium shiners on 1/0 mr.crappie offset hooks on upper droppers .....
Action was on/ off ; on for 15 minutes / off for 15 minutes .... the
slabs did this all night / morning .... just like a big switchbox ! We lanched @ 7:30 pm and docked @ 4:00am . Overall , action was about fair to good .
They DID ( for some , strange reason ) seem to be fighting VERY
AGGESSIVELY , as my partner and I noticed .... even the 10 inchers
fought like gangbusters ! Also , we took several bull 'gills up to 11"
and one 27" northern .
Before leaving the water , we threw a bunch of assorted jigs, like the new Northland Mimic Minnow in perch-pattern , and the 3" & 4"
Berkley Power Minnow/Grub , in pearl/white .... the latter taking the two biggest slabs of the night ( no surprise ! ) .
Anyone else been out fishing ? Fingerlakes ? Eastern NYS ? Anyone?
It would be great to hear from some other slab-seekers out there ...... don' t all jump at once , now !!
