    Default 4-strokes "making oil"

This is a good read for everyone who trolls with their 4-stroke outboards. I have this problem and I troll crank baits all the time with this motor. I was also using gas with ethanol in it.

Good reading Creekslick. I was almost nervous about getting a Yamaha
four-stroke when I got mine because I'd heard so much about this over
on some other forums. For some reason, it seems like the 115 was a
overwhelming majority of the cases, but I know it's not much different from
my 90. That may explain why I'm not having the trouble - mine is propped
to buzz right to the rev limiter, and I have to work the snot out of it just
to plane that pig of mine. Anything below 4500 rpms and I start falling
off plane The T8 I troll with, haven't noticed anything with it,
except it "drools" real bad down the back - a oily stripe coming out of
the top exhaust port. I was told that is common on four-stroke kickers.

My 60 Mercury was on a Tracker PT175 that I bought new and never had this problem until I put it on the pontoon and started trolling crank baits with it. It has always "drooled" out the top exhaust port.

Shortly after buying a 25hp 4 stroke. I pulled out the dipstick to check the oil and oil ran out the hole. I traced the problem to an oil filter with a bad anti-drainback valve. The oil was running out of the filter and back into the crankcase. Replacing the filter with a good one solved the problem.

    Default low temps

engines that make oil are usually being run at low rpm and are running to cold for conditions and unused fuel is blowing by the rings and adding to the oil.

The problem with Yamahas is if you dont run it like you stole it after break in the ring wont seat right.Like somebody else said if you putts around at low rpms youll get gas past the rings.Weve had multiple cases on pontoons. The cure is to go out and run the dog snot out of it and get the hard allPJoy rings seated and your problem will be cured.PJ

Well! I actually learned something here. Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks?

Thanks for the informative read. It was well worth it.
