Default Recently got re-interested in UL fishing - specifically micro sized setups

I’ve been really liking the UL setups. Bought several new in the past couple of months. But I’ve had this little Pflueger MicroSpin for about 20+ years now. I think I got this about 2001 when I was stationed in Florida. First fish I remember catching on it was not what I expected. Fishing brackish water, expecting Shellcracker. Something ripped that cork underwater and ever stopped. Spooled me. Completely. The knot didn’t slow it down one bit. Just a loud pop, and a whole spool of 2lb test was gone.

I’ve been throwing little 1/32 oz Road Runners on it lately, and it’s been a blast. I’ve had some awesome fights on my hands. Unfortunately, no longer produced. I see Shakespeare has a similar one in the Pure Fishing lineup. I may order one of those soon.

    All the best,
    Glenn

I have a couple of Shimano spinning reels that size and they are a blast to fish gills with. Small white bass really gives them a workout and they teach you how to play a fish with your drag.

U/L is a blast. Something in the 500 size would do the trick for you I’m sure.

I have a bunch of newer phleuger President reels in the 20 size, which is a 500 series size. They’re great fun and can handle some bigger fish than you might think. Two lb mono is more common than it was 20 years ago and braid has come an even longer way. I slow cast jigs under 1/32 and it’s a surprise on every cast sometimes. Everything eats tiny baits. Welcome back to the addiction, looking forward to your posts and pics.

That reel is smaller than a 500 size reel. It's more like a 250 size. Only a few manufacturers make true micro spinning reels.
