    Default Daiwa Iprimi 56XXUL-S

Got home today and my new rod had been delivered.
I immediately opened it up .
    Felt like Christmas morning. .

    First impression, hmmmmmmm.
Did the wiggle test , hmmmmmm
    Not exactly what I expected.
I hope my impression changes when I fish it .
Seems awful whippy the entire blank .
Almost like an UL fiberglass blank .
I expected the upper section to be super fast but for it to have a little stiffness in lower section .
Strung it up and confirmed the arc I expected.
Not sure how sensitive this rod can be .
I hope it fools me .

If “whippy” is not your cup of tea, Gillchaser, then you won’t like the Abu Mass beat iii! The xxul part might have something to do with it being whippy to protect thin line, like the 1lb test Sufix I strung up for smaller panfish. Hope to hear more from your experience with the Iprimi!

Not sensitive at all…..but the fun is off the charts. Designed to fish hard baits…..spoons…..spinners. The Japanese don’t use plastics to fish for trout….which is what the rod was designed for. I love using it on the 5 and 6 inch bluegill…..and while I don’t recommend it I have landed some large fish on it. Sooner or later I will run upon a day out here where the stocking truck has just dumped about 3000 trout. When I do I’ll pull out the Iprimi and have a ball. Would use it on the river now but been catching a lot of 12-16 inch trout and the big browns are starting to show up. Afraid that might not end well using the Iprimi. My new home is about 15 minutes away from a lake that has a lot of yellow bass and bluegill. Fully expect the Iprimi to serve me well there. Anxiously awaiting your fishing report.

    Regards

Thanks Randy , since I just started playing around with hard baits , it should work on the little ones .
I had asked you once about your fiberglass rod as I was looking fo a nice fiberglass Ultralight. This should do .

Hey Gill, I would agree with Randy’s assessment on the Iprimi. Not so good with soft plastics, but with small spoons and spinners it’s a blast. This rod was my go-to for the local stocked trout pond last year with tiny spoons, both JDM and mini DareDevles. I swapped out the trebles with some JDM hooks I got from Finesse Fishing and the fish just hooked themselves. I broke the tip and got a replacement right away. I think you’ll like it with the hard baits.

Thank you! Imagine my surprise as they only stock rainbow and brown trout in their Urban Fishing Program.

Hi Hachet, those are some beauties! The last one looked like a large brook trout with its colorful dots. BTW can you share what type of hook and size you got from Finesse? I got a few spoons I'd like to swap out as well. Thanks in advance!

Hey @LVSpinfisher1, I have used the Cultiva SBL-35 in size 8 and 10 and the Cultiva S-21 in 8 and 10 as well. I am leaning more towards the barbed type as I lose a lot more fish with the SBL’s. On the positive side, the fish come off by themselves in the net. I need to replace my smaller 5 of Diamonds as I lost it the other day. All of the spoons in this little box have worked well. In addition, the small Cultiva snaps in 00 and 000 work very well.

Thanks a million for the info, Hatchet! I've been catching these winter stocker rainbows with powerbait but stopped because of gut-hooking them. Now I can try spoon lures for some catch-N-release. Thanks again!
