    Default Garcia Mitchell 308

Still have three of these vintage U/L reels that see plenty of use. Those that have fished with Good O'l Mitchells know that distinctive drag click. Two good Smallies and a hard fightin Buffalo had that 308's drag singing today. Great fall fishing and some good music!Name: DSC03070.jpg

Nice old Mitchell. I have one or two myself. They do have a distinct sound . Almost hypnotic

Nice catch ! And reel .
I still have my 408 , the high speed version of the 308 .
Those reels will hold some line . Mine came with a plastic arbor to reduce the capacity.

    Gillchaser,
They also made a shallow spool, I have quite a few spare shallow ones for the 308's. Very smooth drags too, which is great when dealing with some of the larger fish I have landed with them. Mitchells, Penns, Quicks, Cardinals, etc... lot of history in those old reels.

I have 2 old Pen Greenies. They are an absolute pleasure to fish with as well.

No doubt these older Mitchell reels deservedly earned a good reputation, MR, especially the 308 for being one of the toughest ones made in past year! I have a 304 purchased in almost mint condition for that special round body and yeah, the signature Mitchell drag sound when winding. Nice outing as usual and awesome photos!

I'll have to look for a shallow spool for my old 408 - the original is cracked. Maybe I can find one on ebay.

The reel won't fit on most of my JDM rods - the foot is too long and fat. I don't really want to grind on it, so I keep it on an old Eagle Claw 6' powerlite rod - same rod RGTFM uses on his youtube videos for dock-skipping.

Late 70s pic. My old Mitchell 308 and Abu Garcia light action fiberglass rod with a limit of trout. Had a spare spool in the small black storage container loaded with 4lb Ande mono. Caught alot of trout and bass with that rig. Later bought a Cabelas canvas creel which I still have. Name: 50041.jpg
