    Default Recommendations on bobber rod

Hey all, I love the JDM stuff and fish my tict RF almost religiously. I find myself using small weighted bobbers to cast distance from the shore a lot. Looking for a 7’ is rod to cast bobbers — ok w JDM or USD of some quality. ($300 ish range tops). Thx

I recently discovered the Diawa Presso series of rods.
My favorite shore, longer distance casting rod is the 8ft 2pc. Ultra Light, rated 1/32-1/4 oz with line 2-6 lbs.
It is very light weight and balances well with a Diawa Fuego LT 2500 reel. The lighter 1000/2000 reels make the rod feel tip heavy.
Construction is very similar to the JDM rods with unsanded blank and similar reel seat, it does not have the extremely small guides seen on the typical JDM rods.
The rod is medium flex profile and has plenty of blank stiffness to cast weighted bobbers. I believe this is more efficient than the fast action, tip flex blanks for casting heavier weights.
Retail price is $62.00 which is amazing for this quality and construction.

I also have the Shimano Soare S76UL-T which is JDM and is a nice 7'6" rod for longer distance shore casting. This rod has a tubular tip, not solid which is S76UL-S with the typical very very flexible tip. The T model is more medium action with stiffer tip and will easily cast weighted bobbers or heavier lures comfortably.

    Regards,
    FK

My favorite rod for float fishing is the Major Craft Triple Cross Ajing. I use both the the 6’8” and the 7’3”. I prefer a tubular rod for float fishing. They really are work horses and work awesome with a float and jig.

I'm also looking for a rod for float fishing, mostly slip bobbers for night fishing but also some clip on style. What are the advantages of the tublar vs the solid or disadvantage of the solid vs the tublar. Probably looking at the 6'8" triple cross Ajing.

Another question on the guide size, are they larger enough for a bobber stop to go through?

I only have three JMD rods, one is 7'6" tubular UL the other two are solid tips, 6'3" SUL and 7'6" UL.
All have extra small inside diameter guides, my Diawa Presso and St Croix series have larger guides which easily pass bobber stops and leader knot connections.
The solid tips are very soft and flexible a extra fast action. The tubular tip is more like a USA design with stiffer tip and more towards the fast/medium flex profile which I prefer for casting bobbers and drop shot rigs.

I believe the solid tip designs are mainly for very light weight lures and rather small diameter lines which are popular in Japan. These rods are great for casting 1/64-1/32 oz jigs with small soft baits like the Crappy Magnets.

    Regards.
