Default Varivas Avani Saltwater Finesse X 2

Varivas, a fine Crappie dot Com sponsor, makes some awesome braided lines. If you follow my posts you know I prefer the fine diameter no stretch super limp bomb casting abilities of these 8 stranded PE lines.

I tried some of the brightly colored Super Trout Area Master Limited Premium with success, but fellow board member VA Crappie Man introduced me to the Infinity 8 stranded PE, and I immediately ordered a spool. Champagne colored, super thin and 5.6lb breaking strength, it is perfect for my style of fishing. Many many fish came to hand with this line, almost a year of use on my primary cast and retrieve rod, until one windy day this early Spring…..

A loop far down in the spool ended the Infinity run on the 20 Diawa Luvias. A few ugly words followed my removal of this definitely not cheap line and I re spooled with the Avani Saltwater Finesse in the same pound test.

Now I already have this line spooled on my 17 Diawa Presso and have reported on the staining issue of a white colored polypropylene line in dirty water.

Notice how it can stain in one trip, top pic was freshly spooled and 20-30 fish later you can see the end result of one trip. Nevertheless I now have two reels spooled with the Avani, and the past two days I have been putting them to use.

The Crappie are about to do their Spring dance here now, so cast and retrieve of 1-1.5g jigs on open water points and some brush floater type fishing have been testing the lines well. The Daiwa Presso and Luvias reels seem to handle the fine diameter, and the micro diameter Torzite guides on the ABU Eradicator and the Olympic GraphiteLeader Corto rods do not sing at all under pressure from this super small string. There has been talk of these lines on the board lately, and I will say both these lines are not sight friendly to me, I can see them but after double cataract surgery years ago reading glasses are a must to even tie my shoes, and to tie these lines on a small jig head, ha it can be a challenge some times. Visibility while retrieving is also not ideal in our water conditions, but a high graphite content rod and a tight line will get the message across pretty quick that it’s time to set the hook, and the fish is usually already hooked anyway.
I would highly recommend this line if you like braided lines. Breaking strength is what is advertised, or pretty darn close. I hope to get at least a years use out of this one spool, making the cost a bit more friendly. Get out there and fish, they are biting!

Nice review on the lines and it looks like the line cleaned up some since the first trip. Did you ever clean it or just from using in cleaner water? Those are some nice looking fish you are catching!

So does the Avani offer anything different than the Infinity?

My understanding is the Avani is a little smaller than the infinity. I do not own the avani yet and I am a little worried about the staining. I am not a big fan of braid but this seems to be some good stuff based on what I have read.

So far, I cannot tell a big difference between the two lines as far as casting ability and bite detection. The spool size of 150 yards allowed me to be able to use the line on two different reels, approximately 75 yards on each. I plan to use both these reels through the Spring and Summer season and will report more about the abrasion resistance and knot strength. Here is a picture from Friday using a Light Wire 1g jighead, I was float fishing some brush and getting snagged frequently, and the Avani would straighten the hook out most times and allow me re bend the hook and continue fishing without a re tie. I did not have to use a leader as our water color is basically pollen this time of year.
In conclusion as of now I cannot see or tell a difference in the performance of the two lines, yes the Avani has a smaller diameter but it is not noticeable in my fishing conditions, your mileage may vary of course with clear waters or current, both of which I do not have. I will be up at the daughters house in VA next week and the Finetail 6.3 light action rod will have the Presso with the Avani spooled up and ready for more field tests!

    Nice write up.

I have the Area super trout master limited Super Premium PE X4 Yellow spooled up right now. I've only fished it twice so far, but the yellow is changing to a whiteish color already.

I wanted to try some differnt lines and the Avani PE X8 so I placed an order with Digitaka this morning. Ordered a spool of the Avani 0.2 PE, in the Nylon lines I order a spool each of the super trout 3 and 4lb sight edition (Green), 3 and 4lbBush Trail VEP (orange) and a spool of 4 lb Twitch Master to try out, I would have gotten 3 lb also but it was out of stock.
