I've added bearing upgrade kits to reels before, and never regretted it. I have the MGX, but have never held an ALX, so can't really comment on that.
I got to looking at the ALX vs the MGX. It seems the big differences by specs are weight 27g apx 1 oz. I expect this is due to different body material. What Abu Garcia calls "Feathermetal" on the MGX and also the Zenon vs what they call "Durametal" on the ALX reels, and possibly different spools #5 as they have different part numbers.
The other big difference is bearing count for the reels 10/1 for MGX and 7/1 for the ALX. Looking at the parts schematics it appears that on the MGX part #81 is a bearing in the MGX used for the O/S Gear (O/S is the oscillating gear I had to look it up) and two bearing in the reel handle knob. On the ALX part #76 is labeled as a bushing that corresponds to the same parts for the ALX.
The handle sub assembly is the same part number for both reels 1524383 (MGX #86) (ALX #81), so theoretically the MGX bearing part number 1216643 (MGX #81) should fit the ALX handle knob. That leaves the bushing for the O/S Gear, the part numbers for the O/S Gears are different between the two reels but given if MGX #81 and ALX #76 are the same sized you should be able to change the bushing to a bearing here also.
I'm thinking the ALX might be a real value for the money reel that could be upgraded to 1oz heavier mostly MGX reel by adding 3 bearings. Opinions and thoughts? For what I've seen the price difference between the 2 reels is about $75.

I was going to order the ALX to be able to compare how it felt to me vs the MGX. Shipping cost was going to be $45, so that idea will have to wait at least until Digitaka has some inventory.
Shipping will eat you up on some websites. That sure is the nice thing about digitaka.
Hit up amazon.co.jp and see if they have them in stock. Shipping probably won’t be that much. I ordered my MGX from them and from the time I clicked buy the reel was on my doorstep 32 hours later. Your mileage may vary though on shipping times.

The MGX was listed at $185. Seems like good money for a very nice reel. Y’all are teasin me.
