I have reels with Ester, Mono and PE but only use FC for leader.

I'm mostly concerned about the manageability of the FC on shallow spool reels. I generally am either jigging a trout magnet or using reaction baits such as spoons and spinners. Either way i would prefer to keep the baits low in the water column which the FC should take care of. I also would think I could use the FC as a main line without having to tie on a leader.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Yodie has a great write up on JDM lines somewhere on here. He has probably tested out more JDM lines than anyone I know of. I use the Sunline BMS Azakaya FC line in 3# test. I like it because it is a colored FC line and I can see it. The 3# test though is a bit stiff for tossing 1 gram jigs. I can never seem to find the 2# in stock anywhere. If I could get some 2# I might give up the ester lines but have no clue when or where I might be able to get some.

I’ve been away from here for a while, but I see my line chart is still getting passed around and the effort/money I put into all those lines is being used. I’m glad it’s been of use to some, I was just documenting my journey to finding the lines I like most so I could make sure I didn’t double buy, of course it grew into a monster after that.




As far a JDM fluorocarbon, with all the ones I’ve tried so far (6-8 different FC lines) if it’s not the BMS that Randy mentioned, it’s wasted time and money for this UL stuff. Twist, nests, stiff... just all around nasty... all the bad habits of ester with none of the benefits, except the BMS, it’s special for whatever reason: lays like nylon mono, 3/4 as sensitive as braid/ester, more forgiving than ester, it will get some twist in it if you’re not careful, but most line will.

The 2lb is the gold standard. <1.5gram

The 3lb really punches above it weight class. >1.5gram
