Default Opinions on the Shimano CI4+ 1000s

Thinking of picking up this reel from Digitaka. I have four JDM rods and only three JDM reels, so I find myself in the market for another JDM 1000 series spinning reel.

I've got two Luvias reels and one Ballistic reel, love them all! I do prefer the 1000 size versus the 2000 size reels. The price point seems ok at $233...Much better than dropping $300+...Is this a worthy reel? Is it equivalent to the Ballistic?

Edit: What about the Vanford 500? It may be geared too high?

I am assuming you mean the Cardiff, I like the looks and specs of that reel, especially the handle. Maybe check out Randy’s video on the ABU Revo MGX Theta in the 1000 size. More bearings and bells and whistles for a few bucks more.

Sorry, yes, the Cardiff was the reel I was referring to. Is the Theta superior to the Cardiff?

Between Daiwa and Shimano, the latter will feel more "geary" in this price range, especially models from their "quick response" series. Haven't tried Abu, old habits die hard...

Tough call if it is superior. The Theta is is a great reel I can attest to that. The Theta is lighter than the Cardiff and has a higher bearing count with 2 bearings in the line roller. I really like the drag on the Theta. You may also want to check with VA CrappieMan....he owns a Theta also.

Ever since my American Shimanos started binding I have turned my back on Shimano. I wouldn’t think anyone would have that kind of issue out of JDM versions but it left a sour taste in my mouth. I think the theta would be a great option for you. I think it is a very well built reel. I am super big on my Daiwa’s as well but my favorites aren’t in that price range. If it were me I would check out the theta.

Done deal! Just pulled the trigger on the ABU MGX Theta 1000! I love the JDM equipment and actually have a pile of older rods/reels collecting dust. I think I'll sell some of those off but keep enough for our spring company from Indiana.

Can't wait to pair this with the Major Craft Finetail SUL I own. The colors should look really good paired together!!

My AG Revo MGX Theta 1000s just arrived, and I am super happy with the feel, fit, and finish. Digitaka got it here fast & free, too, and I used a 1000Y coupon they sent me for March. Waiting on a rod for it (AG eradicator realfinesse slow taper special 6'7") from a different vendor.

Question: Anyone know which drag stack config is the heavy and which is the light? The manual shows both washer configurations, but I can't read Japanese, so I don't know which is which. I'll probably leave it alone, but it would be nice to know.

Scroll down to bottom of page and you will see the two stack configurations and which one is Light and which one is Tough.
