That's a serious bend in the rod. Reminds me of this quote from Joe Robinson's book:
"So by miniaturizing my gear, I maximize my fun."
It don’t take much to put a huge bend in the Daiwa Iprimi 5’6” XXUL area trout rod. Made the drive to VFW to test out the rod. Didn’t catch many fish but caught enough to let me know that this rod is really a game changer on small fish. I don’t know about y’all but I’ve had days on the water where 5 and 6 inch bluegill were plentiful but even with SUL and XUL rods not really a whole lot of fun. This rod changes that....it is a ton of fun on 4 inch bluegill. The pics of the rod bent are while I was fighting 4 inch bluegill. The largemouth was maybe 8 inches and it was a tussle. The bluegill readily hit the Daiwa Eve 1.2 gram spoon. I had switched out a couple of the spoons from barbless to barbed hooks. But I have to tell you the Saq Sas #8 barbless hooks are beyond sharp. I did not get into any 6-7 inch bluegill.....which will be awesome with this rod. In all likelihood I will keep this rod in my BW Sports rod case in the boat for those slow days when all that can be found is small fish. Of course there will be times it will be the rod that I intend to fish for the day.....such as extreme low flow at Normandy. I can only imagine the fun an 8 inch stocker trout will be on this rod. While this rod is not what I consider sensitive.....of course I am comparing it to 300 dollar area trout rods......it is sensitive enough. With a butt of only 6.5mm and a solid tip which I think is 7/10 of a millimeter......and a fourteen percent glass construction...it cast the 1.2 gram spoon a very long way with ester 2.3# test line. It’s a keeper for sure.

Great report and thanks! I have a lot of the smaller guys on my stream and from the bend in the rod you had your hands full and a challenge.

Nice action on that rod. Reminds me of some of my old fiberglass rods.

That is indeed an impressive bend on such a small fish. I remember a yellow dagger patterned Eve in one fo your previous photos – that one has been a real keeper for me, my favorite color among Presso spoons.

Really a nice bend in the rod for that size bluegill, hope it shows in an upcoming video. Did you twitch a TM with it at all?
They're built to handle the fish in the trout Areas in Japan - some of which get large. At 5'6", it is shorter than nearly all Area rods, but it is built for small anglers (women and children) rather than small fish. It has a max line rating of 3 lb, which is pretty standard for Area rods.
