    Default Custom Saq Sas Jigs

I got some #8 jig hooks yesterday and poured up over 50. The one thing that I noticed was even though they fit the molds due to the thin wire diameter compared to the other jigs is that a lot of them would have lead inside the hook loop that I had to remove. I also had to be careful while removing the sprue that I didn't bend the hooks wire. I did break a hook trying to straighten one that was bent behind the head. Here is what they look like. I painted and tied some this morning as well.Name: IMG_1741.JPG

Those look good, that super sharp hook is going to stick a bunch of your local fish. The pill head design gives a little wobble when trolled, makes me think of Ledhed and his trolling for those big Coppernose out in CA.

I put one of the pill head hand tied jigs to work yesterday at one of our local park lakes that they stock trout in the winter. Ice up to 3 inches thick in some spots but has some open water as well. The hooks are indeed sharp like a hypodermic needle and caught close to 20 trout without losing a fish. The trout were shallow swimming just under the ice and would rush the jig as I was swimming the jig in open water along the ice edge, got to see every fish take the jig. I generally like to grab the head of the jig and give it a quick twist to release them without using a net but this didn't work on these hooks, thin wire is too flexible and stuck finger several times and was bleeding all over my cork rod grip. Still kept fishing though. They will work great on crappie and gills though.[ATTACH=CONFIG]395113Name: IMG_2154.jpg

Really pretty trout, and that technique fishing near the ice worked real nice. Looks like that hook/jig head combo is going to work well. I always learn something new here.
