    Default Micro Fishing.

Today I ordered a Daiwa Iprimi 5’ 6” XXUL solid tip Area trout rod from Finesse Fishing. I have owned an Iprimi before.....I gave it to a young man to introduce him to UL angling. It was the 6’ 6” UL model. The rod was very limber so I can only imagine what the XXUL will be like. I never really gave the Iprimi a chance as I was disappointed in the sensitivity. I plan to pair it up with a Ballistic FW 1000 spooled with some 2.3# test ester and use the Daiwa Gekkabijin 1/2 gram jig heads with a Trout Magnet. The Iprimi is a very well built rod and looks good also. March-April below Nickajack produces tons of bluegill in the 7-8 inch range. This rod should give me a ton of fun. But I really wanted it for dog days of summer when the tailrace has a lot of 5-6 inch bluegill. If I’m unable to locate and catch the usual Spots and crappie I can always save the day with 5 inch bluegill....but with this setup it will be a lot more entertaining. I am also thinking of maybe getting some 1.5# test ester to make it even more sporting.....plus to gain some more casting distance with the 1/2 gram jig heads. It will also be an excuse to order some 1/2 gram spoons from Chris. Hoping all my plans for this year come to fruition....I have set the bar high to get maximum pleasure out of 2021. So far for the times I have been able to fish it is going well.

    Regards

2020 was a disaster for my fishing, partially due to COVID and partially to other things. I plan to rectify that in 2021 by taking advantage of some of the smaller fish in local ponds. My seiryu rod will be perfect for small gills.

I wouldn't mind adding an Area and a Stream trout rod to my quiver.

I was dead set against ever getting a stream rod...but now I’m so glad I did. Opens up a whole new style of fishing for me. Used the Spectra at Normandy today to catch a few trout on the Forrest Abalone spoon.

I have almost zero experience with a spoon. Maybe I should experiment. I think you have said in other threads that the Japanese believe spoons are more sporting (but still very effective) on trout.

Last summer , the water heated up and the PFA lake I was spending time at after my shooting range visits with my rimfires , I used a 2wt fiberglass flyrod to catch small gills as I walked the bank .
Using tiny flies I’d tied up on size 14, 16, and some 18 hooks , I had a fun time just trying to hook them .
Even these little guys put a nice bend in the fiberglass rod .

You can say that again! Goodbye and good riddance to last year. I’m looking forward to a much better 2021, but I still have to get my vaccine. Still, I have my game plan for some great stream fishing.

PS The link you had awhile back for wagglers was very good and informative.

Looking forward to your exploits Randy.
To really hijack this thread, it's hard to admit DBD was on the cutting edge of fishing revolution with his telescopic pole.
Capps and Coleman, a renowned crappie fishing team has found themselves left in the dust by the use of single pole livescope fishing.
They revealed last week that they have been practicing using JDM telescopic rods to single pole jig.
One uses a 16 footer, and one uses a 20 foot to stay further away from fish. They marvel at how light, senstive and well made the JDM rods were. They replaced the end section, described as thin as a hair, with a section of a BnM pole to keep from breaking the tip.
The price was around $599 each according to the duo.
