    Default Fun with the Abu’s

Snuck away two separate times to play a little at a local pond. The pond has two resident fish in it (bass and bluegill). I went out to play with the gills. My first trip I used the Abu Garcia Eradicator 6.10 Light. I teamed the rod up with a Daiwa Presso, 3lb Varivas Twitch Master, a decoy jighead, and a nikko waxworm. This combo brought 40 plus fish to hand in 45 ish minutes. It was a lot of fun and the real stars of the day was the nikko waxworm and the Varivas Twitch Master line.

My second trip was with the Abu Garcia Eradicator Slow Taper 6.7. Again I teamed it up with the same jighead and nikko waxworm but opted for the Abu Garcia Theta as the reel teamed up with some pink Daiwa braid. This trip was not quite as productive with the cooler temps but the fish were a little bigger and the waxworm still did a good job. The cool thing about these baits is they are very similar to the zman baits in the fact that they are very stretchy and durable. I bought several different Nikko baits and the only one I have fished much is the waxworm. I enjoy my trout magnets but these are pretty cool baits. The gills weren’t any real monsters but they were plenty of fun for a couple quick outings.

Two great rods those are. I really like the Varivas line as well. Good lengths on those Gills, nice catch. That Nikko bait looks realistic, going to get me a few packs.

Nice trip, beautiful fish and tackle. That 610 has a solid tip, right? How's the sensitivity compared to the Slow Taper?

Congrats on your outing. Eradicators are some fine rods for sure...look good too.

Thank you for a great report. The ABU line has sure taken off here at crappie.com. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a domestic supplier start to stock a few.

Nice gills, line color doesn't appear to be spooking the fish. Waiting here for some open water. Checked yesterday and we have about four inches of clear ice which is thick enough to fish on but I'm not a fan of hard water. I hope it thaws in a week or so.

Does the waxworm come in any other color than cream and green? Have you found one works better than the other?

Looks interesting. May have to give it a try.

The 6.10 light Abu is the cats meow. Little bit more backbone but still light enough to have plenty of fun with gills. It is a little faster than the Tict Rockin Finesse and for sure faster than the slow taper special. I forgot to add on the waxworm that I only used one of the first trip and stopped fishing after I broke off. I feel certain you could catch 100 plus fish on one waxworm. They seem indestructible and as far as colors go I have only used the cream color. They do make it in green as well but I have never tried them. I have some of the Nikko worms and the Nikko caddis as well but haven’t given them a good shake yet.

I also want to say I am not affiliated at all with Nikko baits just seemed like a neat idea with them being virtually indestructible. Here is a pick of the Nikko caddis, Nikko worm, Nikko waxworm, and a bison trout magnet.Name: C279BF4B-00C7-4312-AC52-A60E3C9D581F.jpg
