    Default JDM JIGS

I'm a big fan of super sharp hooks and with the new wave of jigs out these days with the .5 grams, 1 gram and 1.5 gram jigs some folks on here have been raving about I want to dig a little deeper on this subject. I've been pouring my own jigs for almost 20 years in a variety of size and weights. Does anyone know what kind of hooks they are using on these jig heads? I have been looking at hooks under a 60x microscope and 80% look great with the only difference I can see is the wire diameter and size of the barbs. A thinner wire hook with a small barb will obviously penetrate better than a hook with a larger diameter wire and bigger barb because there is less resistance. I'd like to hear what some of you think about this. Since I don't have any of these jigs to compare with I would like for someone to send me 2-3 heads with different size hooks, head size doesn't matter. I will send them back to you when I'm finished as well as some of my jig heads for you to have and compare. Let me know once you fish them how they compare.

I think this is what Daiwa uses in their Gekkabijin jig heads that have been so popular here (for a good reason, in my opinion):

I have some of your jig heads...and they are nice, and I caught a lot of fish with them. They were the last jig head I was using when I made the switchover to all JDM jig heads....specifically the Daiwa Gekkabijin light game jig heads with the Saq Sas hooks. I could send you a couple to check out. I have a box full of different brand JDM jig heads and they are all sharp, but the Daiwa Saq Sas are simply at the top of the heap for hook sharpness in my opinion. In my research I am finding signs that they may be out of production.

Finding a mold for that style hook eye could be difficult. A custom mold made to fit with .5, 1, and 1.5g heads would be a good investment if the hook can be sourced in large quantities.

The Saq sas hooks look interesting and the price for them is about the same as what I pay for my Gamakatsu jig hooks so their might be a bulk purchase in my future. I have some custom molds which they might fit or I can make them fit with modifications. Once I get a few I plan on melting the lead off and see what they might fit. I will make it work somehow. The hook gap appears wider and the bend is different than normal aberdeens. Does anyone have just the hooks that they would be willing to send me a pack to trade?

Could this be a job for a 3D scanner and printer?

I honestly know nothing about a 3D scanner and printer. I'm sure it could be helpful and they are being used in the fishing industry. I want to get a few in my hands and check out a few things and see if I can't get them to fit one of my molds. From there I'll just have to wait and see if I want to try and make a bulk purchase on hooks. Going a little nuts here with the crappy weather, really need to see the sun and get out and fish. Thinking about making a crappie buzz bait since I haven't caught crappie on one before.
