Default Question about Daiwa Luvias FC LT2000S

    Hello All,

I recently had a weird experience with the above-mentioned reel. I carefully took apart the bail arm assembly, just the side plates and the joint, not the line roller, to have a look and make sure all is well. I rinse reel every time I fish (saltwater), and figured I'd keep an eye on the water-accessible parts. All looked good, I carefully put everything back together, and set the reel aside for a couple of weeks. Yesterday, while preparing for an outing, I flipped the bail arm and heard (and felt in my hand!) ribbing of the assembly parts in the joint that connects it to the rotor. Not critical, but really annoying. Oiled – no change, greased – no change. And then I found that if you turn the tightening screw about 1/4 turn back, the rubbing is gone. Is it then not supposed to be tightened all the way? Has anyone experienced anything related? Note: I have Daiwa Luvias FC LT2500S with the same assembly, and it does not matter how tight I go with the screws – no rubbing in the joint...

    Thanks in advance.

does it feel scratchy when opening/closing the bail? i have 2 of the 2000s. one is much worse than the other. pulled everything apart, lubed it. feels like sand in the bail.

Yes, feels kind of scratchy. It is pretty clear that the plastic part that contains the line roller assembly is rubbing against the rotor at the attachment point. It happens at the point when the bail is nearly fully open. If you pull that part a bit away from the rotor and hold while opening the bail, the rubbing goes away entirely. There is supposed to be a small gap, just like in my FC LT2500S that does not have this problem. I packed it with quality grease to no effect at all, which is really not that surprising. The only fix I've found is to unscrew about 1/4 of a turn. One point potentially worth noting: just before I discovered the issues, I had a fish run on a tightened drag so there was some pressure on the rotor assembly. But that was on 0.3 PE with no more than 2 lbs of drag force – clearly within the normal limits of this reel.
