Awesome catch! I would say that is a quality rod!

Had another awesome 15 to 20 minute battle with the Tenryu Rayz Alter this evening. Caught this flathead while panfishing with a Bobby Garland itty bit, lol. The story is practically identical to my original post except I was using 3lb JDM nylon. It's amazing how this rod protects the line from breaking under a LOT of pressure. It was still light outside when I first hooked the fish. So much fun...

What a battle. A tough rod for sure. You wouldn’t think they could stand up to the fight when you look at them, but they are well designed with top quality materials.

Looks like lightning struck twice in that spot for you. Hope you get an even bigger one next time to see what the limits are with that rod, if there is one.

I fished this evening with the same rod and lure. I caught a small white bass then things went cold. I moved over to another area and second cast BOOM, hard hit and the drag was singing, I had to run down the shoreline and follow the fish towards my dock. I fought it for close to ten minutes and wasn't so lucky, this time the line broke. I should have peeled off some of the line from last night, there was probably a week spot. These flatheads really like micro lures, who'da thunk it. Oh well, such is ultralight fishing...

Had a monster grass carp grab one of my 1/80th micro jigs .
I was totally unprepared for what happened. Like hooking a Greyhound bus going down the road . Zip , zing , pow !
    Such is ultralight fishing .
Another time had a double digit LM bass eat the pound size crappie I had on .
Had a great fight that lasted several minutes , with a couple of attempts to jump . Huge head . Got her next to the boat and she made one more run , under the boat and broke off on the outboard on the rear .
A battle I’ll never forget . Such is ultralight .

I have to deal with catfish in the summer all the time hitting the Trout Magnet. Had to move out of a pocket on the lake at Williamsport one year. It was every 3-4 casts and one of those things would hit. That got old quick. You’re right they can mess up some light line.
