One thing that I meant to state originally is that my Yamaga Blanks TZ BC 71 was my go too Creek wading rod but I was having a problem with getting good hook sets with the heavier duty 1/0 Owner jig heads and Ned Rig jig heads. I think it was a little too soft for setting these heavier duty jig heads into a bass jaw. This is not a problem with the Scout Master. I think the YB will be a better stream trout rod. Some kind of application where you catch bigger fish with smaller jig heads like the Daiwa jig heads.

YMMV, but I've never had to "set the hook" with a Ned rig. This is using Z-man heads with thin wire hooks.

That is the same brand I use as well. But I did loose several bass fishing Z-man Ned rigs with the Yamaga Blanks rod. They were throwing the jig from their mouth when they took to the air. I am just assuming that the hook wasn’t buried very good into their jaw. I also use these same z-man jigs with JDM light action and ML action rods and haven’t had this problem. With the ML 7’ Favorite Jackhammer, they don’t have a chance or getting off. The light action Evergreen seems to work better with the z-man jig heads as well.

I don't think your BC was designed for aggressive hooks sets with its moderate action. I would not use my 67 for weedless plastics, but with JDM jig heads the hook sets are automatic, half the time I have to figure out how to get the hook out of bass.

I also have the Scoutmaster, and agree with his review.

Seems Evergreen is gearing up to introduce M50X from Toray into their blanks. I'm curious when the Superior line-up will get it...

I also have a 7 ft Evergreen Scoutmaster which I bought last year, after hearing Alphahawk's praise of the Evergreen line. It is now my favorite rod. the rod weighs just a hair under 2 ounces. A stiff Ajing rod with very small guides rated for 1-3 lb line, and up to 10g lure weight, it is rather stiff until a nice fish gets on it! It can overpower small fish, but I mainly use it for spotted bass on Lake Martin. It is a very sensitive rod. I really like the feel of the handle. Mono is the only type line I use on all my rods, though I have used some ester on other rods. I have also had an occasional problem keeping spotted bass on with a TRD ned rig with a 1/16 oz Keitech tungsten super round jighead, size 2 hook, while fishing 25-40 ft deep water. Of course at that depth, with some slack line, you do not always know how long the fish has had it in his mouth. (I know, I know, braid is more sensitive!)

On the Scoutmaster, I have settled in to using 4# test bright green Varivas Super Trout Advance Sight Edition, spooled onto a Stella C2000S, wotj a 100 yd capacity for 4 lb. test line. My Exist 1025 does fit better, but I have it on my 6'4" Super Bellezza, spooled with 3 lb line now. I am careful about overloading the Scoutmaster, and do not worry about breaking it with 4 lb. mono. Scout Master, Exist 1025, 3 lb. Varivas Sight Edition casts 1/16 oz jig head and BGBS (just under 3 g weight total) about 27 yds. average by measuring tape in the driveway. I believe it will cast 10 gram lures with no trouble.

Thanks, Alphahawk, for pointing me toward these two rods.

How is the scout master in 2024? Find anything that you like more? Thinking of placing an order, but unsure of the wait time.
