Yes it feel solid, super solid I would say but nowhere near as smooth as Daiwa. It is kind of feel gear grinding which nowadays is shimano signature not as fluid smooth as Daiwa, let say Tatula. If compare to Ballistic FW the different is more obvious. Now Daiwa doesn’t offer a lot of protection beside Magseal that I don’t want. I hope the X-protect and no anti reverse switch will provide me more piece of mind.

Here are a few others comparisons.

Abu Garcia Revo MGX Theta - YouTube

I've always thought the opposite. Shimano reels are extremely smooth, they seemed to have eliminated any feeling grinding of the gearing. Not to say that Daiwa reels aren't, cause they are. I use the Presso LTD and Exist but the Shimano Vanquish to me at least is the ultimate in silkiness.

    Default JDM Reel Thread #2

Mulling over some reel options while I wait on the 6'10" Lunakia.

    Another Revo MGX Theta
The slightly older Revo MGXExtreme 2000s (this one has my interest at this time)
    2020 Luvias 2000s
Shimano Vanquish (may be a reach but it's not in stock at the usual places right now)

Any other reels I should consider? Thoughts/opinions welcome.

The Vanquish would be my choice I do not have one but do read good reviews from most on this reel.

I think you are going to find the MGXtreme is no more. The Vanquish...a great reel......is hard to source. It’s just going to come down do you want to wait on the reels at top of your list.....who knows when they will be available......or do you go with your second choice. I have been at this point with rods for a while now. The rods I want cannot be sourced......or can’t be shipped.....so I’m just going to wait until it all gets back to some sort of normalcy, and who knows when that will be.

    Regards

Japan Lure Shop actually lists the MGXtreme 2000s and the Vanquish C2000sss as in stock. I have an email out to them to see if it is indeed available. I think both would balance all right with the Lunakia.

Bother. JLS erroneously had the MGXtreme 2000s listed as in stock. I will continue to look around as I'm not in a huge hurry.

Here is a new 2021 Luvias in the 1000 size....and low gear ratio! A little high maybe? Competition for Vanquish?

Been reading as much as I can find out about it. The Daiwa Japan website does not really give comprehensive details about the reel. Made in Japan...but am shocked at that price they use a bushing for spool support.

I do not know much about engineering or spinning reel anatomy, so please excuse me if this is a rookie question...

Randy, how do you know that the spool sits on a bushing instead of a bearing? Like you said, there is not a lot of detailed info on the Daiwa Japan website.

And would this bushing have something to do with the reel being designed for salt water? Would the bearing be more vulnerable to sand and salt?

Do you think this reel is really worth over 50,000 yen?

I also wonder if this will be like last year's Luvias, with a first run made in Japan before shifting production to China...

    Scott
