Like others here, I'm looking to buy less quantity and more high quality equipment. I just recently purchased a Megabass bass rod for my son (he's completely sold on that brand, the cool factor I guess) and now I'm on the hunt for something for myself. My initial thoughts were to buy a UL bass rod, though I understand those aren't appropriate for crappie fishing (too fast?). I was thinking about buying a Shimano Bantam UL but then I decide to broaden my search and now I'm looking at the Tict RP or the AB Eradicator. I guess the reason why my thoughts are pretty far afield is because I just want a do-it-all UL rod. Something for the creek smallmouth, redeye, and spotted bass, but also something for lake panfish and crappie. Does anyone have any thoughts?
I was after a do-it-all JDM UL/L rod a year ago, but a year and about ten rods later I know that I will only buy them for specific purposes. Takes your experience to a different level, I think. Japanese excel at making specialized rods.

To your question: I'd recommend a Blue Current TZ/ Nano from Yamaga Blanks. They make great do-it-all rods, in my opinion. For UL, I'd take one of the Jig Special models, for L/ML – the stream model. To be clear, there are better rods for specialized purposes, but Yamaga makes great all-arounders.

The thing that's somewhat frustrating is that all of the usual spots are completely out of rods. I suppose makers in Japan have a different development and product innovation timeline than here in the States. Someone should start a JDM rumors blog on new releases.

Those Yamaga Blanks are very nice looking rods. I've been eyeballing them for quite some time now. If there were any in-stock, I don't know that I wouldn't already have one.

Yes, you're just a bit late for that: several web stores restocked not so long ago, but these rods do sell out.

The most do-it-all rod I have is a Tict Ice Cube Rockin' Power IC-69P-Sis. A few are in stock at Digitaka right now with free shipping. Awesome for everything, it is always in the boat with me. This rod can handle big fish, yet you can still feel the littlest fish nip your jig. It is even a good dock shooter, as well as an excellent all-round crappie and bream rod. Oh yeah, it handles Chattahoochee trout like a champ. It is second only to my Evergreen Superior Limber Tip, which cost twice as much. It is a tough rod, as I have accidentally dragged mine across a rough parking lot at the ramp once, and it survived with just a little super glue on one guide. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I own some Blue Current TZ rods.....Tict RF.....Eradicator Slow Taper Special......and quite a few other brands. I do not own an Ever Green. If I had to pick just one rod out of all the ones I own for an all rounder rod it would be the Lunakia 6’ 10” model. I throughly enjoy all the rods I own and am glad I don’t have to pick just one. I have had fun catching bluegill and crappie with the rod and it can handle big Smallies. It is in stock at Finesse Fishing.

    Regards

I love my Superior, but I wouldn't recommend it as a do-it-all rod. Sort of like a race car – excellent at what it was designed for, terrible for weekend grocery runs...

Well, I couldn't resist it anymore: pulled the trigger on Eradicator 79-ULS-EXF-TZ. Did some research, got in touch with several actual users... Looking forward to it. About $280 with tax and shipping, except it's coming via snailmail from Australia.

These came in a few weeks ago. They look nice and overall I’m happy with the purchase. I have a couple of rods that came with a plastic pouch or no pouch at all.

Abu released videos of new Eradicator prototypes:

That 46Pro-ST looks interesting, blank is base on M40X and T1100G pre-pregs, under ounce. Seems to be one piece though.

These are just the ticket for winter storage or if you are making up your own storage tubes will cushion the rods nicely. Good find.
