This is true of the gold and nickel TM jig heads and it is true of this Decoy jig head. The Decoy jig head does have a very nice lure keeper on the hook shaft. I should also note that the Decoy has a gaped hook. It holds the TM body very secure. I suspect this feature is one of the reasons it is a popular jig head in Japan. Japanese Ajing plastics are very soft...and a bit pricey....so I’m sure the anglers there try to do all they can to conserve their plastics. If you look close you can see the lure keeper on the Decoy jig head pic. The Decoy jig heads are assembled in China from Japanese made components. The ODZ jig heads are manufactured in Japan. I will use these jig heads no doubt. I am sure the ODZ hook will easily penetrate the bony part of the mouth of a KY bass on contact....it is that sharp. I am thinking the Decoy jig head will not do as well. The Decoy jig head does not pass the finger nail test. It does not dig in....it just polishes your nail. I am just assuming here but I’m thinking the Daiwa Gekkabijin jig heads could show back up in a month or two. Will be trying these new jig heads this week.

    Regards

I think you will be surprised by the Decoy head. A couple weeks ago I stuck a bunch of fish species with the 1.2 or 1.5 gram (can’t remember which) head and a BGBS Baby Shad. Included was an 18in Largemouth that gave me a ride on the ABU Eradicator, reported on it here. Well tonight I hit that same point 15 minutes before dark and got 4 bites and stuck 4 fish...all 4 Crappie. Tonight I was using the 1.5gram Decoy head with the #8 hook with same plastic. Of course I use braid, the Sunline Saltwater Special Small Game PE-HG in 3lb and it will flat stick a hook in the fishes jaw quick. So far no complaints here on the Decoy, looking forward to your results.

I am also impressed by the decoy jigheads but I don’t use the same one you and Stan use

Only caught a few fish with the Decoy. The one thing I know for sure is the lure keeper part works great. Had a bunch of the little nippers. It really holds a TM body. That could be very useful when getting into stacked bluegill. I like the shape and feel of the jig head. As soon as the bluegill stack up in the dead lock I’ll be able to give it a workout.

    Regards

Stan I lost more crappie today due to them coming unhooked than I have in the past 3 years total. I fished with the Decoy the whole time. I don’t know if it’s the open gaped hook or what. A lot of them right at the net.

    Regards

Oh wow....not good. I do bend the hook in a little bit but not a lot. I have yet to lose one, especially at the net. I think we are both fishing deep as the water temperatures and time of year dictates their position in the water column. I am using the full size BGBS plastics with the #8 hook and have no issues. In your last video it looked as is they were taking the bait deep and no problems with hook ups??

A tip when using the 2.3 lb Varivas ester line: Keep a little bottle of booze in the boat to cheer you up when a magnum spotted bass breaks you off in the brush.

Man, I so wanted to land that fish, but I was completely under-gunned for the job.

An Extra Spool with Unitaka 3 or 4lb braid in the boat might help tame those spotted beasts....just sayin :-)

Sorry to read that. When I started using ajing rods in the bay for mackerel I had them paired with 1.25-1.5 lbs ester. Lost some of my best macks and a generous handful of jigheads before switching to PE.
