Default Kayak Trip Report, Paint Rock River

Since the creeks and rivers cool quicker than the lake I decided to fish the Paint Rock this morning putting in at Hwy 72. Mixed bag and was doing well when I caught a Flathead that I decided to keep. He wouldn't fit in my cooler and I wasn't going to keep fishing with him between my legs beating me up randomly, so I called it a day early. The water was 68 degrees at daylight and hadn't warmed any when I left. Most fish were 8 to 10 feet deep coming off single pole using a 1/30oz jig head and the Z-man Micro WormZ.

Nice mix bag of good eats. Good job. I have a section of paracord I use as a stringer I keep in my bag. I’ve tied any unexpected catches up with it before and just let hang in water but we don’t have any gators to worry about.

    Awesome ditch!

those flats eat good. I hit cataco this evening and rode up to limestone. thought I might see you out.

I caught about a dozen, only 3 measured so I let ‘em go. Nice evening on the water though

18-pound Flathead on a 10-foot ultralight jig rod took forever to tire him out. I agree though, never miss a chance to fry a big Flathead! He could swallow a 12-inch Crappie whole without slowing down.
