Default Weird Question About Eel Grass

I'm setting up a 180 gallon fish tank, and I want to put some eel grass in it. I know I can scoop up a boatload of it at Guntersville, but I moved to the Shoals area a few years ago. I'm trying to think of somewhere a little closer.

Do y'all know of any spots where I could collect some closer to the Shoals? I remember seeing some near the I-65 bridge on Wheeler, but that was years ago.

I could buy some from an aquarium shop, but I need a lot, and it seems dumb to spend a bunch of money buying it, when it's clogging up the Tennessee river.

Fun fact, we've always had native eel grass in alabama. But, the Guntersville stuff is an invasive hybrid.

And, I'm only spreading it to my aquarium.

Since it is an invasive species it make be illegal to relocate it. I would check before I collected any to relocate it.

That's actually a good point. I wish I knew a private stream with some of the native variety.

Anyway, I'm setting up a big tank with native fish. I want a lot of plants to make it look good, but also for water quality.

Never mind, folks. After the legality concerns raised above, I decided to just buy some of the native variety. I found a decent deal, so probably cheaper than gassing up the boat and making a special trip anyway.

If you want eel grass in your aquarium, you put eel grass in your aquarium. I have not seen any eelgrass police lately. They are probably probably working out of the same office as the mattress police. We transfer it from lake to lake on our boats and trailers, unintentionally.
