I have never fished Elk much but the crappie I have seen on my depth finder where I have been bass fishing have been 15' and deeper. Hopefully someone that fishes that area will see your post and help out.
Hi, I have been on vacation here on the Elk River since Monday and have not caught the first crappie. I have tried jigging and longline trolling and have not had the first bite that I know of. does anyone have any suggestions? Going to be here till Saturday.

Thanks flintcreek, we did manage to catch some catfish from the dock where we are staying. I am seeing several people bass fishing, but not one boat is crappie fishing though.
Have you tried Spring Creek which is almost straight across the Tennessee river from the mouth of Elk River. It is spring fed and the water is cooler than most parts of the river and if nothing else you might pick up a few small mouth bass while hunting for crappie.

Elk River is kind of dead right now. Are you up for driving 30 minutes from there. I live on the Elk and won't fish it this time of the year.

Never got a bump from a crappie but was able to get the wife and grandkids into some bream. We caught enough catfish for a meal and some leftovers. Thanks for your responses. i was just starting to think that I was becoming a decent crappie fisherman till this vacation. The learning never ends, thankfully.
At least you found something. Come back in the fall or spring sometime and fish wheeler. Should have much better luck.

If longlining use a 1/4 head and fish them deep, 15-20 on the points. The white crappie will be suspended out there. Might need to go to the main lake to find them. You can also troll crank baits.
