Default Kayak Trip Report, 8 Mile Creek (Lake Catoma)

I fished 8 mile Tuesday putting in off County Rd 1422 at around 6:00AM and fishing till around 4:30PM. I caught fish all up and down the Creek, but Crappie were concentrated in three areas. I kept 6 and returned 7 larger fish but mostly caught little bitty four to six inch Crappie by the handfuls. Also returned numerous Bass and endless Gills. I didn't fill a cooler with what I was after, but beautiful day on the water. Best bait was a Chartreuse Bobby Garland on a 1/32oz jig head fished about four feet deep on isolated submerged brush. Bass and gills came from a spinner with a 1" slider body on a 1/64oz jig head.

Lake Catoma is about four feet low, visibility of about 18 inches and water temperature of 92 degrees. Dragging my kayak back up that hill after fishing all day with a temperature of 99 degrees and heat index of 110 was brutal! I still love that area when I decide to make the effort.

That place is always full of small crappie. Don’t planned on going until I get my new yak but may be forced to go a while this weekend
