Default Kayak Trip Report, Madison County Lake

I took off work Friday and fished Madison County Lake from 7AM till around noon. I kept 13 and returned about the same number of larger Crappie. Fish were caught slow retrieving a 1" slider jig on a 1/32oz jig head 12 to 15 feet deep near the old stand pipe at the dam or the brush piles. The water was 79 degrees and cloudy with visibility of only about 12 inches. There were huge bait schools all over the lake, fishing should continue to get better with all the food in the lake. They introduced Threadfin shad a couple years ago, some days it looks you could walk across the lake and not get your feet wet with all the bait.

I had other places I wanted to try, but everything is probably high and muddy.

I read this and said nah that's not right. Limestone was 2 1/2 above summer pool.

Yep, I drove by Barron Fork Thursday and the water was up in the woods. Madison County was one of the few places I know that stays relatively clear after a big rain. Didn't find big number, but any fish was a victory!

By the way, huge schools of bait fish, clear water and no floating grass. Somebody needs to try dragging crankbaits in Madison County for suspended Crappie in the summer!

I've tried the cranks in there DB. Challenge is 99% of those fish are blacks and they do not respond to the cranks as well as the whites. You can get a few, but I find longlining works best there.

I'd figure by the time you got the cranks deep enough it'd be time to turn around
