    Default Duplicate question about rods

I asked this a while back. I’m wanting a GOOD 7’ rod for cast and retrieve. Preferably light but would settle for light medium. I’ve been using Shakespeare micro series light. I love the action, sensitivity and most everything about it. It’s way cheap but I’ve not used anything I like better for those things. Here’s the problem. I’ve broke 3 trying to get just average size crappie to the surface. So I’m ready to get something stronger before fall. What y’all recommend?

Last year I bought a Pflueger Trion Med-Light 6FT spinning combo from Cabelas. It has a 30 size reel which I also prefer for the larger bale. After using light action rods I found I preferred a rod that had good sensitivity but more backbone and that’s been a good fit for me. Reel is great too, very smooth.

I bought a president 30 combo. I liked the rod but broke it. Stopped at wal mart on my way one morning to get something cheap. I bought the Shakespeare and learned I can detect really light bites better with a light rod. Not because of feel but the tip just does something funny that a medium doesn’t.

I use a 7ft Jenko hypersense rod in my kayak and love it. It is priced decently at $45.

I like the Okuma Celio rod. They seem to be plenty strong with good sensitivity. Mine are 7 foot light action

Would also look at the BnM dock shooter series. I use that for just about all my single pole jig fishing needs.

My favorite casting/ single pole rod is an all star ASR drop shot rod, its med light has good backbone and a ton of tip. I don’t remember the price, but i don’t think it was over 60 bucks. You can sling a 1/16 jig on it with 6lb line. Great casting rod. Especially when you stick a good non target fish on accident lol.

There so many good 7' rods in that range. When you start moving into the light or ultra light category's you don't get many mistakes before the tip gets damaged. Norseman makes an ESP 7 footer. Labeled a power lite. I have not used any of these but there is member here who swears by them...maybe it's CrappiePappie. Pains me to say but I know GrizzlyJig carries a few of their models.Name: Screenshot_20210823-213101.jpg
