Default Kayak Trip Report, 8 Mile Creek (Lake Catoma)

Found out yesterday about 3PM that today (Friday) became a Federal Holiday and I was off work so I decided to make a short trip to 8 Mile Creek on Lake Catoma in Cullman. Best bait was a 1" slider in Pink and Chartreuse on a 1/32oz jig head casting single pole. I kept half a limit of Crappie and returned endless small gills and Crappie. The fish I kept were 9 1/2 inches to 10 1/2. I only returned a handful that were 12 inches or over, most were under 9. The water was 78 degrees with visibility of about 12 inches with fish suspended 5 to 6 feet deep on the grass along the edges. Beautiful day on the water! Fish pics later.

Damion Kidd, dragging back up the hill off CR 1422 was worse than I remember. I about had a heart attack!

How deep did you fish? Catoma is pretty deep overall and has pretty steep contours. We went out Sunday in the boat to ride down and back on the lake with the kids and looks like the summer grass is starting to creep out more from the banks giving them some thick cover in the shallows.
