That was always my favorite Guntersville scenario. They would stack up behind a choke point when they were pulling water and ambush the bait fish as they got swept out.
Went over to fish for 3 hours before dark this evening to see if I could get on a few crappie. Had to change bridges a couple times before I found some that were interested in biting. Caught several short fish and ended up getting 4 keepers to bring home (should’ve been 5, one broke off as I was landing him). Biggest was about 12”. I threw about everything I had at them - different colors, shapes, sizes, jig head weights. They would only bite a pink and purple 2” baby shad and nothing else. Found them at about 10-12 FT deep casting with a super slow retrieve. Water was clear with visibility of at least 2 FT. They were pulling water steadily and there were baitfish everywhere, lots of other big fish busting the surface chasing them. Fun little trip with a few groceries to boot!
