Went to the Susie Hole off Garth Slough this afternoon, fished from about 4-6:45. Main purpose for me this trip was to try out my little mini spider rig setup (just 2 poles) to see how it works and figure some things out since I’ve got zero experience doing it. Was a little windy to begin with, so I had to fight that and try to get into some pockets out of it. It finally died down about 5:30 and was just a beautiful evening to be on the water enjoying the Lord’s handiwork.
It’s highly probable that what I was doing today was a poor excuse for spider rigging, but I gave it the college try lol! I ended up only catching 1 short black crappie and one small bass. I wasn’t able to cover near as much water as I really need to I’m sure, especially with only 2 poles. I ran black and chartreuse BG 2” Baby Shad about 3 foot deep. Also casted a jig and cork up to the banks for a while to see if I could find any in real shallow, but no luck.
Water was fairly muddy still and full pool looks like. Saw plenty of baitfish jumping, but not much action today. Most importantly I had a good time on the water and feeling more and more comfortable using a kayak. I know this post doesn’t help much but thought I’d check in anyway!
