    Default DIY Rod Transport Rack

Well after a few days of thinking on it, then a few more getting material together. Finally got some time to build the racks. I used angle iron for the Mount to the versa track, square tubing for the up rights, and angle iron for the rod holders with a black Teflon cutting board from Amazon cut up to Mount to the angle that holds the rods. The front is just a flat piece of Cutting board 2 inches wide bolted to the angle iron for a spot to rest the rod butts. The back is another 2 inch piece of cutting board with notches to separate the rod ends to try to prevent tangles. I found a small rope tie off at Lowe’s that I mounted to hold one end of the bungee cord and the other end of the bungee just goes across the top of the rod and hooks around the end of the holders. I think they turned out good.

That’s on the list G, found them on Amazon earlier and have them ordered. I couldn’t find them while I was in Lowe’s, I’m sure they were there somewhere, but I never found them.

As of right now, not really on the tip slap. I haven’t took them on a long enough road trip to see exactly how they are going to do as far as tips bouncing. The short trip from my buddies shop to my house, I looked in the mirror more than I looked out the windshield watching the rod tips. The movement was pretty mild, but that was no faster than 55-60 mph and maybe 4-5 miles. I’m going to keep an eye on them, if it gets to excessive, I will build a 3rd holder and put it at the very back of the boat for more tip support. Then move the other one a little closer to the middle. The rods are 16ft jenkos. They have good backbone so I’m not worried about anything the way it’s set up now except the tips. I wondered about putting a small bungee around the tips of the rods to keep them from beating each other too hard just for road transport. Then taking that bungee off when I got to the water to launch the boat.

I use a piece of velcro one wrap around all my rod tips to hold them together and I have not broken a tip in several years.
