Default A little info please. 1/10/21

    Hey Guys,

This is Drumking from the Tennessee forum and there is a good possibility that I might get a two day trip to Wheeler lake in the next few days. I have never been to Wheeler before. We will fish for crappie and maybe Smallmouth bass. Catch and release only. Grin.

We will go out of the Decatur, Alabama area and what kind of water should we expect. I don’t have a map of Wheeler or I wouldn’t be calling on you guys for help. Any water hazards or conditions that we might run into? Water color etc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Our trip isn’t set in stone yet but a 75% possibility.

    Thanks in advance.

    DK. Aka Drumking.

I can't help you with small mouth. I don't fish them But I do know some of the guys I work with had rather fish pickwick for smallies. I would definitely love to help you and would love to meet you. I follow you on the Tennessee forum and I really appreciate your post. Your thread on single pole help shaped the way I fish. Gonna send you a PM with my cell.

How are you going to fish? If you run back up river from Decatur limestone is the first creek on the north side of the river after you go under the interstate bridge. Probably a 5-6 mile run. It has a bay in it about 1/2 mile up the creek that you can spider rig in, and also the creek leading up to the bay has lay downs in it you can single pole. I’ve been deer hunting since mid October and hadn’t fished any but know a few guys that say they been catching them spider rigging in limestone bay.

Thank you for the info. I am excited to come down and fish. I single pole fish all the time. I never troll or use live bait. I just love to throw jigs. If we have any luck, I will post on the Alabama forum. Grin.

I love to fish with new people. I have taught well over 70 fishermen on Chickamauga lake how to shoot docks and a few I have shown how to fish offshore structure. I’m 78 years old but act 16. Lolol.

Of your wanting smallmouth you need to go down 1 more dam to bottom side of Wilson. You said you didn’t use live bait but that’s the best way to fish for them we use yellow tails or buy some big minnows from bait store just need a small hook and split shot and just drift fish the current and there is some nice ones here.

Is that because I'm old or because I act younger than my kids. LoL
