Default Cotaco Creek ~ running fast question

I am pretty new to this forum and have recently start fishing Cotaco. Sunday the water was pulling pretty fast.

Anyone know the status of how long that happens when it starts?

Any way to check that before I leave the house?

I was looking at the TVA site for Wheeler but was not sure I was in the right spot.

    Thanks for the help!

Yes, TVA app will show what they are pulling and Wheeler is the correct lake. Its is good to look at predicted data down towards the bottom, the Inflow amount, which is what's coming in from Guntersville then the outflow which is what is leaving Wheeler. If they are matching at lets say above 50,000. There is going to be a good bit of current on the river and the creeks.

Thanks for the info! So if they are not matching and the outflow is higher. 85,000 out and 81,000 in - good time to fish or no?

    Thank you

Sorry....just re-read this and I guess outflow is coming out of Wheeler....so that is coming out of Cotaco. So I guess that means is flowing pretty fast today.

I like fishing best when Wheeler outflow is less that 25000, which probably wont be anytime soon with the rain we just got and more coming in tomorrow evening. I will tell you though, that app is not a make it or break it for me going fishing though. Sometimes it is just plain wrong lol. Just go to the creek, see what the water looks like then look at the app. You will get an idea of how the water flow is in general.

I fish Cotaco pretty regular. If you go and the water is swift I fish closer to the bank. Crappie prefer but not always stay out of the current. Close to the bank. Behind a current break or in the mouth of several sloughs and creeks that enter cotaco. Was there yesterday and it was tough. A lot of current. Only managed 2 keepers and they were returned to swim again both were caught in 4 fow close to the bank where the current was minimal

If you try to just judge fishability by flow you gonna loose your mind. Get after it. Just add a little weight when Jigging and learn to look for dead pockets of water. If it's reversing up a bank even better. Obviously safety first. But no truer words than if you don't go you'll never know. Fished Cotaco and wore em out when the water was in the parking lot.
