    Default Food For Thought

I've been reading various posts on this forum about using livescope and other new technologies. It keeps making me think about a time several years ago when I went to Texas with some good friends to deer hunt. We all got in a stand and about daylight an automatic feeder came on and deer suddenly appeared from every where. There were some very nice bucks in the group but somehow I just didn't want to shoot one. Felt like it was no challenge. I worry that technology is going to be the demise of our sport. When it gets so easy it will cease to be fun. I would not enjoy fishing in a trout farm. Also many of us on this forum worry about fishing pressure and over fishing our lakes and new technologies will allow more anglers to take more of our resources out of our waters. It seems to be the mindset of our society that everything should come easy or be given without much work or effort. I deal with this entitled attitude from kids every day. Most good anglers have put in a lot of effort and time and have gained knowledge through experience including some failure. But when you had that great day it created a memory that would last forever. Don't get me wrong, I am not opposed to a little technology. My Gps is the most important tool I have. It is invaluable as over the years I have begin to expand my fishing areas in the Louisiana Delta and could not do so without it. I just feel we need to give the creatures that God blessed us with a sporting chance and I worry that we are almost to the point where they don't. I have always had a competitive attitude and want to catch the limit everytime I go but being honest I don't need to. I don't need the meat and I need the lessons in humility. Since Daddy went to live with Jesus I have not gotten to go fishing one time because I've had so much to deal with. I am going to Cocodrie the day after Christmas and I don't if I don't catch a thing. I am going to relax a bit and enjoy some fellowship and God's creation and I might catch a fish or two.

I have fished with the livescope and it helps but not as much as you think. Seen tons of fish that just want bite.
Back earlier this year had some friends down from Kentucky and they fish from daylight to 800 and had 4 fish using LS. I got in with them and we filled the box with old fashioned knowledge. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it bother

Through my years of fishing and I feel that will be short compared to some of you ole geezers. I have seen the invention of or serious improvement of.

    mass produced boats
    mass produced gasoline engines
    electric motors
    mass produced graphite
    2d sonar
    spider rigging
    down image
    Gps
    side image
    Slab sauce... BANGSHEAD

I am sure I left some off but you get the idea. I do agree with you in some ways about the sportsman. I just disagree with it being the peril of crappie.
For the record I don't own any panoptic.

Coach, it's an interesting dilemma. I guess that we each have to find that spot where we are comfortable with ourselves and our decisions. That also includes finding that spot that it really doesn't matter what others are doing because you are good in your own skin. You can only be accountable to/for you and your actions. Sounds like the trip after Christmas will help you find that peaceful spot and be some good therapy. Appreciate you! Merry Christmas

How much work is enough work for you Coach? I've been bream and bass fishing since I was a kid. My granny use to take me. I never got on a boat until I was 17 years old. Growing up on a farm didn't lend time to fishing and my dad sure never approved of anything not work related.

I spent a lot of money on graphs and a LS to shorten my learning curve. I don't enjoy fishing, I enjoy catching. A Live Scope won't catch a fish. That still takes some talent, luck or skill. It does help me leave dead water. In a hurry.

I don't fault anyone for using whatever technology they want. The hook was revolutionary at one point. I just read about people picking out the fish in a school they wanted and catching it. That would not be my cup of tea. I guess I enjoy the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat . I like victory more but still

    Coach,

    Well said.

I've never used Livescope, but I doubt you can buy Crappie with technology alone. Fishing from a kayak is part of my rebellion against the norm and I'm blessed to catch more than most with the best equipment out there.

If hated and didn’t enjoy the fishing part of it I would have quit a long time ago. Because I fish a lot more than I catch. Lol. There’s just more that I enjoy than just trying to catch a limit of big fish every time I go.

Fur took me fishing one evening after he got his LiveScope. He put us on some fish that were holding on structure and we watched them ignore cast after cast, lure after lure. I eventually caught a couple of small ones and a couple of stripe. The LS will show you the fish but won't make 'em bite

As most of y’all I have LS since , I have gotten this new boat I have not had the LS in the water it is ready to go but I just don’t use it instead I rely on my instincts and 58 years of experience. I have used LS but to be honest it does not put fish in the boat. I agree with you in some of what you think but I think Mother Nature has put instincts in the fish also and Gods work will win every time.
