    My two cents...

Fishing means different things to different people. Just like golf, jogging, playing cards, horseshoes, or any activity. God made each of us different. Some of us are competitive. Some just want to relax. If you all were created like me, it would be boring and we’d all be in trouble. LOL

I’m blessed to have a nice boat and Livescope. It’s not as nice as some, but nicer than others. I worked hard for the money and decided it was worth it for me and my family. I’m no better fisherman now than when I had my Jon boat. But it’s nice to be able to take my daughter out maybe two or three times a year and put her on fish. She’s in college and don’t have much time for dad these days. To me it’s worth every penny to create memories with someone I love. Time is a premium for us and it sure helps with the memories when she gets to reel in a slab. I’m sure just being on the water together makes good memories. But we do love that thump.

I’m jealous of you folks that can walk down the bank or hop in a kayak and catch fish at will. I’m not that guy. I wish I was, but I haven’t put the hours and hours you all have into learning to be that good at fishing. I didn’t grow up here and between working, raising a family, coaching baseball, basketball and never missing a kid’s football game, dance recital or school function, I just didn’t have time to learn the art of fishing like some of you have. If I could have figured out how to squeeze 48 hours into a 24 hour day, maybe I could have.

I don’t have any regrets. I envy you who can catch fish and know these lakes like the back of your hand. You don’t need electronics. You’ve got knowledge and experience. I envy the guy that can hit 70’s on the golf course or throws ringers every time in horse shoes. I guess I’m an average jack of all trades, but master of none. So, I’ll use every advantage I can the few times I get to get out in the water.

Besides making memories with my family and friends on the water, I enjoy the fellowship that you folks have shared with me. Several of you have offered up advice and some even helped me out on the water. At the end of the day, I thank God for all of you. I enjoy the conversations and love how helpful the crappie community generally is with everyone. Especially new folks. It’s not like that in other activities.

I’m not in a position to offer up advice, but if I could challenge you to put yourself in the other person’s shoes when you have a different opinion than they do, maybe you’ll understand something that wasn’t apparent on the surface. When that guy goes by in the nice bass boat full of electronics, or the guy stands on the bank without a boat, treat them the way you would want them to treat you. Hopefully, that’s with courtesy and compassion. That person may be locked up in an office or factory somewhere for 70-80 hours a week while you get to be out on the water enjoying this wonderful gift that God has provided for you. If you have the knowledge and don’t need the equipment, thank God for the blessing. He didn’t bless everyone with that.

One more thing before I get off my soapbox, most of all, don’t forget why we celebrate this season. The gift of Jesus Christ was the best gift we could have ever received. Merry Christmas folks. I hope you all are staying safe and have a great holiday season with those you love.

Awesome and true words of wisdom. Hope to get to meet you one day fellow. All remember the true meaning of Christmas. It’s Christ! Merry Christmas. Without technology this entire group would more than likely not be able to share our knowledge on fishing to help others. It has its place. You guys keep making those memories and always take a young person if possible and past this gift on to others. We never know when we are going to make a difference in a persons life. And always share Jesus!
