That is always a fun time, and a nice change for me. I grew up trout fishing as a kid in MT and WA.
For those interested, Trout fishing starts at MCL on 27 NOV 2020.

I usually don't fish trout but might take a quick limit before moving to the Lake for Crappie.

Interesting. I've never tried trout fishing there but might. I have no idea on hook type/size nor bait. Kernels of corn or salmon eggs? small enough hook to hide in the bait?
I’ve never tried trout fishing or have never eaten a trout but it sounds interesting but I don’t have a clue how to go about it.

I usually will use a 2 lbs leader, 10-20" long depending on the water clarity. If real clear they are right on the bottom, a little dingy they will cruise about a foot of the bottom. I use a #12 salmon egg hook, very small. I use Berkley powerbait for trout, comes in a jar the size of salmon egg jar, it's a thick dough that floats your hook off the bottom. They usually have some for sale at the store at the lake or you can find it at Cabela's and some WM stores. Favorite color is rainbow, a mix of chartreuse, orange and green in a swirl. Use a pinch of powerbait the size of a good pea, just big enough to hide your hook and float off the bottom. Roll it around the hook and bury the hook. Use 1/8 or 1/4 oz egg sinker above a barrel swivel cast out and let it sit on the bottom. Works almost every time! I never use heavier than 4 lbs main line, like crappie, these trout can get line shy. Use a limber tipped rod, these fish will give you a run for your money and you will have the occasional jumper! Have fun guys.

I haven't fished stock and take trout since Missouri 10 years ago, but your standard bluegill fair will work. I use a #6 hook with the lightest weigh you can cast but instead of a worm or cricket. I use the same Crappie nibbles that I put on jigs. They're conditioned to thing something hitting the water is time to eat, not a lot of sport to it, but fun. I filet mine, the small bones left will dissolve in the grease. Not Crappie, but not bad either!
I went on a trout trip to Arkansas a few years ago. Not my thing but it was ok. We started early morning using something that looked like a little rooster tail. Caught a bunch then they stopped. Then used trout nibbles on the bottom. Just what I know. Which isn’t much. Lol
