    Default Trolling / Long lining

Is anyone trolling or long lining now? Just wondering if it’s the wrong time of year or not.

I troll thru the summer and target the thermal cline. Last trip out the thermal cline was gone and the water had turned over so it made it a little tougher to figure it out, but once I found them they'd bite.

I long lined a primary creek channel today off the TN river. I pulled in the channel, on the edge of the channel and flats along the edge of a channel. I saw lots of fish and bait on my livescope. I didn't get a bite. I ended up catching some single poling on drop offs with shad schools.

When you say "trolling" are you referring to spider rigging? I spider rig all 12 months of the year.Name: image (4).jpg

I did some back earlier in the month without much luck. I think the fish were scattered out and a little more lethargic due to the early fall transition. I've been told by some long-lining vets that it gets better as the water temp drops later in the fall and early winter. Should be good later in November and December weather permitting. I had a couple good days last year the week after Christmas then again in February and March. I would guess it slows down during deep winter periods(at least where I fish up here in TN and northern AL).

Most of the fish I've seen are on wood and want it slow but I have seen some out chasing balls of shad but not in the numbers I would like for long lining.
