Default Kayak Trip Report, Limestone Bay/Creek

I fished the Northern end of Limestone today, caught 53. Half were short fish, but I kept half a limit and returned the rest including six slabs over 13 inches. I didn't pick up any spider rigging, fish were caught single pole jigging cover with a 1/16oz White Marabou or casting a 1/64oz spinner with a White and Chartreuse 1" slider. All fish were in 3 foot of water or less with many in 18" or less on the banks. The water was 68 degrees with visibility of about 12". I spent part of the day sharing one of the pits with the big Gator that lives in Limestone. Looks to be about an eight or nine footer. I put the fish on ice, photos tomorrow when I clean them.

That dang white maribou does it again. Great job and thanks for the report. I hope to be there sometime tomorrow.

I have a hard time convincing myself to fish that shallow, except maybe in the spring. I know it works because I see you and a couple of other guys catching them. But, if I don't catch some immediately, I quickly lose confidence and move out to my comfort zone of 7'+ and continue not catching them.

I find often in the Fall that Crappie move to the same areas as Spring. I think it's a combination of cooler water temperatures and bait fish moving into the shallows. Finding the baitfish is always the key though!

I’m kinda the same way. Last time I went I actually caught a few almost that shallow. But I kept getting hung up. Got frustrated and started fishing deeper. I’ve got so much to learn and not getting to spend enough time on the water right now to do it.
