Now that the temps are cooling off, I decided to head back over for a couple hours before dark to see if I could fill a bucket with some fish for the freezer. I was also curious to see if the size of the fish would be any bigger now that the hot summer temps are behind us. Water was stained and running over the spillway at a good clip from all the rain. I ended up keeping 20 fish, with the 2 biggest measuring at 9 and 9.5 inches. I decided to keep anything 8” or bigger as this seemed to be the smallest size to me I was willing to clean. WM Lake is under 500 surface acres also, so there are no size restrictions.
Started off fishing a jig under a float, caught about 5 in the first hour of fishing doing that. Changed over to casting a jig and retrieving at about 2-3 feet deep, this ended up being the best method. Caught the last 15 keepers and several more small ones the last hour of daylight doing this. Best color was electric chicken BG baby Shad.
Seems like this lake definitely has a stunted crappie population, but I still had a fun 2 hours this overcast afternoon just catching fish, and although small they’ll eat just fine!

Sounds like a great way to spend the afternoon. Congrats on a great day out
Good report and you will see a difference if you keep a bunch. It takes a few years of keeping them little fish to get some good ones

Great job from the bank! I like the little ones better anyway.

Decatur?
Those are the best eating! Fry up good and crisp. Also reducing the population will increase size later on.
