    Default The Big G

Decided to switch things up. I haven’t had much luck on the Coosa lately and decided to try Guntersville this morning with a friend. We caught 6 crappie and three were keepers. The white bass were on fire and decide to keep a few. Almost every cast was a white bass or skipjack shad.. We fished around the bridges with minnows and jigs. The surface temp was around 82 degrees. A lot of fun and felt good to put some fish in the boat.

Good Job! I plan to try Guntersville some this week myself, I haven't been over there in a couple of years.

Fun times fore sure! The white bass are fun to catch and they eat up good to but you have to cut the red streak out or they are real mushy tasting!!

I trim out the lateral line and then skim any red off of the filets and usually will soak over night in the fridge with a couple tbsp of salt in the dishpan of filets. They fry up pretty well.

Wife and I will be there next month staying at the state park. I have never been and hope I find a place to fish from the bank.
Maybe get lucky and catch a few to cook one night.

Nice catch. White Bass eat good in my opinion, just trim out the red meat.

I will be there Columbus day week. Also fishing from the bank. I think I found quite a few spots using Google Maps.

Please report back how you did.
