Default Kayak Trip Report, Madison County Lake

I made a short trip to Madison County Lake today fishing from daylight until lunch. The fish were scattered on bait fish schools 6 to 8 feet deep. I spider rigged 5 poles with 1" sliders on 1/16oz jig heads keeping 14 and returning 6 larger fish. The water was 85 degrees and still cloudy with visibility of about 12 to 18 inches. Started slow with the fish shutting down completely around 10:30. Still a beautiful day to be on the water. I meet alexava and his son on the water, alexava hook what ended up being a huge grass carp that drug him a 1/4 way across the lake for 20 minutes. Fun to catch the fight on 4 pound test line, LOL.

I wish I could have figured out the crappie. The carp wore me out. I had grown used to being out fished by DB. But this was a tuff beating. Lol I’m probably going to have to let fall weather get here before I paddle again..

Same here. To hot for me. Buy fall I should have a truck which will make it much easier to haul my kayak. Hope to really get after them when it cools off some.

Fish the early bite and head home once it gets hot. I make lots of trips in the summer from daylight till only 9 or 10AM. Plenty of time to catch half a limit for fresh Crappie for dinner!

That’s always the plan. I just have a hard time leaving before noon. Then I’m exhausted.
