Default Kayak Trip Report, Madison County Lake

I returned to Madison County Lake today. The fish were scattered again and a little deeper, about 8 feet. I kept a limit and returned a limit plus of Crappie that were 13 to 14 inches. All fish came spider rigging 1 inch sliders on a 1/16 oz jig head. Visibility was about 12 inches and 83 degrees at daylight. The water had warmed to 88 degrees by 2PM. I had a Thunderstorm roll up so I kept two larger Crappie to finish my limit before leaving. Very few people out today, I did meet a gentleman in a kayak that I think is a Crappie.com member. He was picking up a few long lining. I found some schools of baitfish that were 50 feet by 20 feet and solid from 6 to 12 feet. With the addition of the threadfin shad there's an amazing amount of food in the water.

I got out there about 5pm that day DB.....caught two good ones and the lightening and storms hit and had to beach the boat and sit out the lightening.
I swear it said 15% chance of storms when I checked that afternoon. Insane lightening storm for about an hour.

I got loaded up and checked my limit with the lake manager, but found the rain by the time I got to Hwy 72. There was a break at the house that let me clean fish, but the bottom fell out in Madison later. I sometimes fish in a little rain, but lighting sets me moving quick!
