Default Kayak Trip Report, Madison County Lake

I fished Madison County Lake today, fish were 4 to 6 feet in 15 to 30 feet of water and scattered. I spider rigged 5 poles with 1" sliders on a 1/16oz jig head. Kept 26, bite shut down about noon. I returned 6 that were 13 to 14 inches and several that were about 6 inches, so three year classes represented. Crappie were hitting bait on the surface like you'd typically see with stripe. The lake was high and full of trash, visibility of maybe a foot. The water was 80 degrees at daylight and had warmed to 89 by 3PM. I tossed the edges for gills the last three hours. Lots of small ones, but nothing large enough to clean.

I ran into Bob D putting in at the same time, he was killing them long lining again! Good to see you Bob!!

Good to see you too DB. My son-in-law is in town for the weekend from Little Rock AFB where he is finishing up flight school as a C-130 J pilot. He wanted to go out, so thought we'd give it a try. Wound up with 21 in the live well. Some really decent fish and it was fun getting him out for the morning bite. Seemed like black and chartreuse, blue and chartreuse and wildcat pro grubs on 1/24 jig heads were working well for us. Was hard to believe those fish were hanging in the top 4-6 FOW over top of the thermal cline which was steady at 12 FOW.

Bob D, You didn't mention your son-in-law was in the Air Force, please thank him for his service for me!

Another thought, I've just started using a jig and bobber occasionally. I bet that would have worked considering they were hitting bait fish on the surface.

Note the bloody tail on the one in the pic. A couple others were already starting to get egg sacks!

'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6
