Default Swan creek report for Tuesday and Thursday

I fished Tuesday with a couple other people. We started at 10:30 till 4 . We caught 20 or so bass,20 crappie and several bluegill. 2 of us went back Thursday and only caught 3 bass and 4 crappie and 2 bluegill. All fish both days were released to be caught another day. Saw 3 cotton mouth one of which was coiled up on the bank. Bass were caught on a hollow body frog. Crappie and bluegill were on 1 inch grubs. Water is coming down slowly. The crappie were on the small side with a couple 12 in or so. Biggest bass was 3 1/2 lb

Nice work! Not to be contrary, but your "cottonmouth" is a plain-bellied watersnake (Nerodia erythrogaster). Very commonly misidentified as cottonmouths.

My bad. I didn't get very close to it. I think the white under his mouth through me off. They are easy to tell in the water as the whole body is on top of the water. I thought he was more grayish color than the black or very dark brownish color of the cotton mouth.

A friend of mine says they're all Cooperheaded Rattle Moccasins. As you can guess, she thinks they're all poisonous, LOL.

I do my best to leave them alone and leave them be, unless they come towards me and I don't have a choice in killing them. Usually it ends up being a Water Moccasin at least once a year. Seems like once it gets really hot an miserable they get cranky too!

No matter what it is I’d probably make a mess if it came toward me in a kayak. Lol. That’s my only fear when I’m out.

If you see them coming near you, a little splash from the paddle will send them the other way 99% of the time. If they keep coming and get close, I just separate the two halves of my paddle and hit them with the edge. All the real close calls I've had over the years is always putting in the water or getting out.

The edge of a kayak paddle is like a machete when kitting a snake so you've always got a handy tool.
