Default Plastic, hair, or feather jig? Which one works best and when?

Overall, I like plastic. But when crappie are finicky and tight-lipped, hair jig seems to work better. Thoughts?

Marabou and rabbit fur have a very subtle action that plastic just can't match. In cold water, I think fur/feathers is a better choice.

At times I fish with an older gentleman... If they ain't biting he switches to a 1/64 white hair jig. Throws it as far as he can and let's it sink. Takes forever but eventually the line will jump. So dang small I almost can't see it on his line. Yeah 2 out 3 trips he outfishes me 2 to 1

In my opinion all three have there place, I normally don’t hold back on info but on this subject I’ll have to stay tight lipped. I have to many boats follow me around and hit the same spots I fish and have seen and heard them talking while slowly passing by trying to figure out what I’m using. I don’t mind helping people out but it has gotten bad, that’s one reason I don’t post as much as I used to. To many lurkers on here anymore and if someone wants my help they can PM me. I hate having to start being this way but it is getting awful. I’ll put anyone on fish but whenever I post I’m on fish I have boats riding the lake looking for my boat and follow me.

Folks I have seen this happen with my own eyes and it is the truth. Cowboy is one of the most friendly persons on here but people will definitely take advantage of that. We share information a lot and it goes both ways.

To me most day it doesn't matter. I seem to catch them about the same. The biggest reason I use ties is I don't have to push the dang grub back up or replace it, that saves time. I will say there's sometimes I get more bites on ties, under a float marabou is hard to beat. But when I go light I prefer a Bobby garland 1/32 or less. I find more times than not it's predation over the kind of jig or color.

Now saying all that one of the best crappie fishermen I know uses 3 colors of tubes and 2 sizes of jig heads and he can out fish me most days. (1/16oz - 1/8oz red chartreuse/black chartreuse an yellow and white tubes)
