But you're not looking at the bigger picture. Yes there are worse diseases, but the hospitals only have so many beds. Even with social distancing and such, it will still overwhelm our hospital capacity. We aren't fight a WW2 enemy. We're not fighting in a desert. We're not fighting in a southeast Asia jungle. We're fighting a virus that we have no data on, and the virus itself is changing more rapidly than any other virus we've seen.

The problem is those worse disease are still out there and if the hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients, they won't have the ability to care for people who truly need treatment for those worse diseases.

We're doing this not to cower from the disease, but to fight it head on. The way to do that is isolation. If China had taken this disease this seriously, we wouldn't be in this fix. You can't look at the numbers today. Those people were infected 2 weeks ago. The spike is coming.

This is is far worse than the flu. At least we have a way to make vaccines for the the "regular" flu. We have zero infrastructure for this.

People don't understand how fast the disease changed from the time it got on the plane in China to the time it got off the plane in Italy. It was a different disease at that point. This is already worse than the 1918 Spanish Flu outbreak.

This disease doesn't behave like the other flu viruses. It attacks the lungs, liver and heart. It isn't just a respiratory disease like the flu. It's far worse, and it's mutating at a pace we haven't seen before.

We're not panicking. This is a clear and calculated decision. Look at the news conference. Trust me Alabama is as conservative as it gets. Check out the news conference the data doesn't lie: City of Tuscaloosa – Government - Mayor Walt Maddox holds a press conference to discuss local efforts regarding COVID-19 | Facebook

    Default Tuscaloosa done shot down

Yes, 16000 people died of flu this year, but 21,000,000 contracted the flu. Almost 1600 people have died from covid 19 with 100,000 confirmed cases. Even if we haven’t identified all of cases due to testing problems this still makes Coronavirus 100’s of times more virulent! Many facilities are running out of personal protection equipment! I work in health care in Huntsville, and previously worked in NY. Friends who still work in NY are telling me TERRIFYING stories of equipment shortages and patients dying alone because they can’t allow family near them! UAB has rising numbers of patients on ventilators. I vehemently disagree with anyone who thinks this epidemic is overblown. Stay safe, go hunting or fishing , but don’t underestimate this pandemic!

I kinda see it both ways. But to tell me I can’t go out in the middle of nowhere and fish by myself where there’s no way of transmitting or catching anything isn’t right in my opinion.luckily I know and regularly fish several places like that.

@DamionKidd, the problem with that approach I that you're look at the destination instead of the journey. Did you have to stop at the gas station to get gas? That's a point of contact. Did you have to get ice? That's a point of contact. Snacks? Point of contact. How many people did you have to pass within six feet in all those places? Those are all points of contact where you could have contracted the disease in numerous ways. Not to mention that every angler is having the same idea about fishing in "solitude" So you get the the boat ramp and there are tons of people there. How many of those people touched the same tie down on the boat dock?

Fishing doesn't happen in a vacuum. Again you have to look at the whole picture. That's what people keep missing here.

This virus thrives with bacteria and behaves almost like bacteria. All points of contact mentioned are possible transmission points. Just because you are fishing by yourself doesn't mean you won't contract and spread the disease on the way to and from your favorite spot.

Everything you touch leaves bacteria that his virus loves to thrive with. How many people touched that bag of chips or Vienna sausages between the factory, the warehouse, the delivery truck, the stock boy and all the people who decided to pick breathe on cough on sneeze on and put back on the shelf before you came along and decided that was the bag or can you were going to buy? Can you really guarantee that you aren't infected at that point?

You have to look at all factors. People just aren't looking at all the factors at play.

I am not an alarmist by any stretch, but I whole heartedly agree with everything fun until has said. That’s biggest problem we have in this country right now that so many people don’t want to believe how bad it is so they still want to be out and about. I have read everything I can find on this. It is not the flue by any stretch of the imagination. All the experts from around the world all agree that locking things down is the only hope we have of slowing this until better testing and a vaccine can be developed. Our country got caught with our pants down despite several warnings that something like this was coming. And it’s not a political thing. It’s just a blantant head in the sand approach from most major country’s.
I have a good friend who is dying right now in a hospital in Georgia. He and his wife were on a cruise ship that was one of the first quarantined. They spend days on the ship, then they were transferred to a base in Georgia and put in quarantined. Then tommy started showing symptoms and the transferred him to a hospital with pneumonia, temp going out of site, BP dropping to nothing. They finally got him on a vent. That was 3 weeks ago he has been basically been out of it since then. Finally last Sunday it looked like he was turning the corner, temp came down, BP settled down and he had stopped fighting the vent, Monday he started responding a little to the nurses. Day before yesterday temp started back up, and as of yesterday he was back about where he started. Dr visited with his wife yesterday and told her he was starting to show signs of multiple organ failure. And in this whole process his wife had tested positive and has gone through a bout of it while in quarantine and seems to have beat it without hospitalization but they still have her in isolation. If tommy makes it through this it will be by Gods hand. Those Dr’s and Nurses have worked tirelessly to save him and not near enough praise can be heaped on all these medical people for the war they are fighting.
Pay attention to what the medical experts are saying, follow their instructions, and we can get through this. Get it through your head, this is not the flue, it is not going away soon and it’s up to each and everyone of us to do our part. Remember this the one you may infect and could cause their death could be one of your loved ones.
