    Default Duck River Reopening

Seen this and thought I’d share....

”Duck River Reservoir will reopen for boat fishing on Thursday 3/26/20.

The main boat ramp on the East Side of the Reservoir at the dam and the launch on the West side of the lake off County Road 1670 (formerly County Road 1651) will be open at daylight Thursday with a maximum motor restriction size of 25 horsepower.

Reservoir Manager Tim Scott said the lake level is down approximately 11 feet below full pool and there are some shallow spots on the lake that could pose a hazard. Scott urges fishermen to exercise caution when both launching boats and operating the motors on the water.
Access will not be allowed to the dock at the dam boat ramp because of the steepness of the walkway.

Restrictions on the reservoir, creel limits and other information is posted at the boat ramps. Required fishing permits may be obtained on the City of Cullman website at Home | City of Cullman, Alabama or on the Duck River Reservoir Face Book page by clinking the blue “Signup” button on the right side of the page and completing the form.

Outdoor recreation opportunities are permitted under Governor Kay Ivey’s State of Emergency. Recreation is a healthy, stress relieving activity.
Every local, state and national health organizations recommend following social distancing guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19.”

I was in the area so I rode down to see how low it was. It’s pretty bad but both boat ramps were full. I may try it in my kayak this weekend if the weather is good.

A friend down to the West side ramp yesterday early afternoon and said the lot was only 1/4 full. He went back with his boat around 4 and said he couldn't even find a place to park so he just went home.

I went this morning myself. Got there about 7:15 and the the parking lot was already close to full but we put in no problem and found a parking spot. Fishing was pretty slow. I managed a few very small, thin bass, a few smaller bluegill and a couple 11" crappie all on various bobby garlands and slider grubs. Seeing the larger crappie was promising though as most Ive gotten out of there before were right at 9 with a few being 10".

I'd imagine it will slow down once people who have been wanting to go get that first trip back under their belt. But I've also noticed Lake Catoma boat ramp has been crowded as I've seen it multiple times the past couple of weeks. Not sure if that many people are off work with everything going on or what.
