Not for me. Let us know how you fare with the gators and cottonmouths.
Just out of curiosity has anyone ever tried wade fishing the flooded timber in wheeler for crappie? Figured it’d be fun to try this spring.

Where about on wheeler you talking about.
you would be smart to use a kayak or canoe or small flatbottom to fish the buck brush ….when the water warms in spring there are large gators out there that though Ive not heard of anyone being attacked, it could happen and I see gators there most years...there are some nice bank fishing spots that waders would help you get to...
Don’t get disgusted. There’s places on wheeler where there are no gators. There’s standing timber at Beulah bay if you can catch the gates open. Pm me and I’ll tell you how to get there.

When I was young man or maybe an old child I used to wade at night to catch catfish at Buelah Bay. 30 years later some people I work with were talking about gator hunting I about lost my breath when they said where they were headed. That warm water with that sandy bottom...still sends chills up my spine thinking about it. I carry a .38 with snake dust now but I sure don't want to tangle with a gator especially in the water.

Not trying to push anyone's buttons, but you don't have much to fear from the few gators in North Alabama. There's millions of them in coastal areas from the Carolinas down to Florida and west to Texas. How many reports are there any give year of an "Alligator attack"? Typically they're found feeding on someone that was already dead or the very old or young and small that got to close. I routinely fished around Gators up to 10 foot in Georgia with a kayak and never had one be "aggressive". Typically curious especially if there's splashing in the water or a mother warning me not to get to close to her little squeakers.
On a side note, a cheap kayak is a great way to cover water and fish the shallows. Many areas of Lake Wheeler are muddy as hell. Wading in two feet of water may leave you calf deep in a muddy bottom.
Agree on the gators, Ditch Basser. The Mobile River Delta is full of them, and I have swallowed plenty of that water with not a hint of gator in it. One must work at getting close to them.
'at boy just ain't right.
Just the word gator would keep me in a boat. Agree you don’t hear much of gator attacks but when I lived in NC I didn’t take chances with them or cottonmouths.

Wow. I’ve been all over that area and never saw any. I guess they are everywhere around here now.
