Thread: Kayak fishing in North AL

2 really nice lakes in Cullman county. 530 and 600ish acres, only 25 hp or less motors allowed. I see a lot of kayaks fishing there. If you live in Madison it would take under an hour to get there and easy to get to coming south off I65. I think it is a nice safe area but a woman as well as a man should consider having a little lead throwing friend along with them anywhere they go these days. Just my opinion. If you would like more info or directions message me, I’ll be happy to tell you what I know.

Madison Co lake like u mentioned is a great place to fish ! Keep after them until you find them they should be either in the brush piles or hanging out in the Chanel down the middle of the lake they usually can be caught about 10-11’ down . Good luck and be safe !

Sportsman Park area of Elk River (Big Creek) should be pretty safe with the store and hwy so close. There is also Shumakers Branch. But personal protection is probably a good idea anywhere. A .38 special with snakeshot would serve many purposes. Feel free to PM for specific directions if you're not familiar with these spots.

Dekalb County Lake is also real nice and a real good size. Madison County has some nice crappie. Just got to find them with this warm weather.

You might try Flint creek around Decatur off hwy 67 it has a lot of flats off the main creek channel where they come in to feed this time of year

Thank you all SO MUCH!!! You’ve given me some awesome places to get out and try! I’m so excited to get out and get this kayak broken in. I’m thinking about getting a depth-finder set up for it next so that I can find the channels and structure.

I guess I need to get my carry permit, huh. Not that I am afraid of anything, just don’t want to be naive either. I hope I run into some of you guys out there!!

If you do get your concealed carry permit be careful where you carry some of the places I described are on the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge and no firearms allowed please check with local laws before you go out,it could involve a MAJOR fine if caught with a firearm.

I am by no means an authority on the subject so as said above please do your own fact finding.
