    Default In a rut.?

Wondering if anyone suffers from the same fishing affliction? I scour the net looking for tips tricks or any useful information I can find. I then make all kinds of crappie attack plans. Then on the way to the lake things change. 1) I want to catch fish 2) I want to have a good time. Well I am going fishing so 2 is a given and now I’m back at 1. So do I try something new and maybe waste one of those precious days when I can fish or do I do what I have always done? The sad reality is that once on the water I go brain dead and all my carefully made attack plans fall by the wayside and I revert to the known and trusted. Sometimes this is good and sometimes not. Hence the Rut. Habit is a hard thing to break. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms and if so how did you break out of the rut

Go with "known and trusted" till "known and trusted" don't work, then change it up a little. But prepare for the change. That's what you plan for. Plan to get out the rut once "known and trusted" fails you! Sounds simple, but I know, ain't as easy as it sounds.

But here's one thing to remember. Be impatient! Yes I said it. The best fishermen I know are impatient. They do "known and trusted" for only a short time, then they go to Plan B, then Plan C, then Plan D.....and so on.

    Good luck.

I have the same habit of doing exactly like you described. Once I get there all I can think about is to catch fish and that usually means doing the same old thing in the same old places. Thanks for sharing, I figured I was the only one.

Been there and done that, I go with a plan, then change it many times before I get there. When I get there, I change the plans again! Now, I just go and let the lake tell me what to do. Water temp, thermocline, cloudy or not, Etc. Then I make a new plan every hour or so. UGH! LOL

I’m the same way. I got to catch fish. I’d love to be a great crappie fisherman but I can either try to catch crappie on my, at most, one trip per week or I can go catch something that I already know how to catch. Hard to give up the known for the unknown.

I try to hit new spots every trip and over time it will pay off. Also summer time isn't the best fishing so I will ride around and look of new spots. If you want to learn new techniques its best to find someone to go with so you don't waste valuable time looking instead of learning. Are you looking to learn new techniques or just place?

I would like to learn new techniques as well as learning to find or locate promising areas to exercise those techniques.
I mostly fish early evening and at night. Lights, slip bobbers and minnows. Night fishing has been pretty good to me but I want to broaden my game.
i would post a pic from a few weeks ago but haven’t a clue how to do so.
